Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

The foreshadowing sits within what would happen to River Run if Brianna sold all the slaves to John. It’s only a few years after Jocasta and Duncan Innes marry that they have to sell River Run, the livestock, and the slaves. While they keep some of the warehouses and some other assets, they need to sell the bulk of items and flee to Canada.

It’s all linked to the Revolutionary War. Jocasta and Duncan are on the wrong side of the war. The growing hostilities against the Loyalists lead to their lives being put at risk, so the best thing to do is flee.

Everything Bree worried about wouldn’t happen since there is no River Run to be left to her. She doesn’t have to worry about owning slaves. However, the slaves are sold anyway, and not to John, who could have helped given them something of a better life.

Adapting the Drums of Autumn chapter

This is the point where the TV show changes from the book storyline. Honestly, I didn’t mind it. I’m not that connected to the book storyline, taking both book and show as two completely different entities. I was also ready for the change getting the hint that Jamie and Claire were never going to make it back in time for the birth.

What I did miss was seeing the conversation between Brianna and John about slaves and what Brianna could do. John didn’t question Bree’s need to sell the slaves, but he did point out her flaws when it came to her livelihood. He worried that she would be left with nothing, showing us just how much he already cared about her, and not just for Jamie’s sake.

However, I will admit that I enjoyed the way Outlander Season 4 was able to end. It felt like a TV show ending, rolling us into the fifth season and setting up the threat for Jamie, Murtagh, and more.
