Outlander Book Club: Drums of Autumn Chapter 63 breakdown
Claire and Jamie return to River Run in Outlander Book 4, Chapter 63
Outlander Book 4, Chapter 63 starts with Brianna and Lord John, but it ends with Claire and Jamie returning from their trip to the Mohawks. This is the start of the story where a lot of changes were made for the TV series.
We begin with Brianna trying to avoid owning River Run. Lord John Grey points out all the flaws if Bree were to sell the slaves and try to run the plantation alone. It would be impossible for her and she’d end up destitute. However, I do see a bit of foreshadowing within this chapter for what happens to River Run eventually.
In the end, the focus shifts. Claire and Jamie return from their trip, and it’s just the two of them. We know that Roger was purposely left behind to give him time to think. We’d have to wait, just like Bree and everyone else, to find out if he’d return or not.
If you were hoping for the TV series to play out the next few chapters fully, you’d have been severely disappointed. This is the point of the story where very little is used. As a show-first fan, it didn’t bother me in the slightest. However, I know a lot of book-first fans who were disappointed (and even some who were angry) in the decision.
Let’s dive into Drums of Autumn Chapter 63.
