Brianna meets Lord John Grey in Outlander Book 4, Chapter 58

Jocasta continues to look for a husband for Brianna in Outlander Book 4, Chapter 58. One of the men included at dinner is Lord John Grey, but is he a potential husband?

Brianna has heard about Lord John Grey. She knows a little about him, but this is the first time she gets to meet him. She clearly doesn’t view him as a potential husband, but we get that hint of a potential friendship forming between the two of them.

We also get to see just how smart Brianna is. She realizes that one of the men is going to propose to her if she falls into his trap, but she manages to find a way around that. It’s important to remember that Bree is observant and can plan ahead. After all, she does have that MacKenzie bloodline, too!

Of course, the chapter had to be included in the series. It’s one of those that is important for setting up the friendship between Lord John and Brianna. It’s also important to give us a bit more development of Bree’s character, something that I feel the show couldn’t offer too much because it cut down Bree and Roger’s story a lot at the start of the novel (due to time).

There isn’t much in the way of foreshadowing. We know what’s to come with Forbes, but this chapter doesn’t hint at too much. Then, we’re getting it from Brianna and she’s not really paying too much attention to Forbes.
