Outlander Book Club: Drums of Autumn Chapter 57 breakdown
Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter
It’s clear that Otter-Tooth’s story is going to come up again. There’s no way something like this is only around for one chapter. However, I don’t think this is where the foreshadowing is.
The foreshadowing is in Ian’s story. He’s been spending a lot of time with Emily, and it’s clear he has feelings for her. She’s invited him into her bed, which means she has feelings for him. It’s going to come to someone making some sort of sacrifice, and that sacrifice is Ian. However, is it that much of a sacrifice when he would like to be with Emily and loves the Native American culture?
Adapting the Drums of Autumn chapter
The story of Otter-Tooth was included in Outlander Season 4. There were also talks of trade. That’s about it when it comes to the adaptation. The Otter-Tooth story was necessary considering how it’s come up in Outlander Season 5.
The big change was the lack of Emily in the series. Young Ian made the decision to sacrifice himself so he could become a “man of worth.” In a way, it made the sacrifice greater. He was willing to do that without necessarily having someone in the tribe to be with.
Emily is important in Ian’s story, though. We’ve learned a tiny bit of it in Outlander Season 5, but there’s still more to come. Whether the show will go into it all is unknown.
