We’re back with Roger as he learns about Alexandre’s ‘crimes’ in Outlander Book 4, Chapter 56

Roger wakes up still in the hut he’s a prisoner in during Outlander Book 4, Chapter 56. Father Alexandre is no longer with him, but the priest is still in the hut.

This chapter gives us a look into the development of religion among the Native Americans. We get a chance to see how the tribes could be divided, but also what their expectations of certain rituals were.

Father Alexandre has a chance to open up about his story, although it’s through a confession. Roger hears that confession, but in the end, Alexandre realizes that it’s pointless. It’s not Roger’s fault but his own.

I have always loved these chapters with Roger and Father Alexandre, and I enjoyed the show’s version of the same story. There were some similarities within the storytelling. After all, Alexandre’s story couldn’t change as it had a direct effect on how his life would end. There was also that fear that something similar would happen to Roger.

There’s a lot of development for Roger, as he continues this path of compassion despite everything that’s happened to him.

Let’s dive into Drums of Autumn Chapter 56.
