Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

There is a little foreshadowing in this chapter when it comes to Jamie’s upcoming storyline. Claire realizes that Brianna means she wants Claire to bring Jamie back. Bree knows what Jamie has said about not returning if he can’t get Roger.

Claire now realizes that Jamie would stay behind. She fears what he might do. It all foreshadows Jamie being willing to trade himself for Roger. It foreshadows Ian following in Jamie’s footsteps and being the one who does stay behind in the end.

Someone isn’t coming back from this trip. At least not right away.

Adapting the Drums of Autumn chapter

The chapter was partly used for the series. Instead of heading to the Tuscarora people to find out they’d sold Roger to the Mohawks, Jamie and Ian knew that they’d sold Roger to the Mohawks. They knew the journey they would have.

Along that journey, they follow the path the Mohawks took and find the bones of the man who had died on that journey. It adds to the worry of finding Roger.

The important part that was kept in was Jamie’s confession to Claire about being jealous of a dead man, of Frank. It’s an important part of the story with Claire believing one thing, Ian believing another, and Jamie holding onto his secrets.

We get that reminder that no matter how long a relationship has gone on for, communication is essential. That’s why I love that the show’s writers kept some of this part of the conversation in.
