Outlander Book Club: Drums of Autumn Chapter 51 breakdown
Roger manages to escape his captors and find some stones in Outlander Book 4, Chapter 51
We find out what happened to Roger in the previous chapter. Now it’s time to catch up with him in Outlander Book 4, Chapter 51.
Up to this point, we didn’t really know what had happened to Roger. The last we had of him was him thinking about his death before he’s even been born. Was it possible that that was how Diana Gabaldon was going to handle the character?
There were no hints that Roger hadn’t been killed up until Jamie told Claire and Brianna that he’d sold Roger to the Iroquois. Finally, we could breathe a sigh of relief.
That was until we found out what Roger was now going through. In the novel, Roger is alone with the Iroquois tribe. It’s only in the show where he has someone else there with him, and that’s something I’ll look into in the adaptation section. This change was likely purely due to the way the TV show had to deal with Roger’s thoughts.
There is certainly some foreshadowing within the chapter, especially at the very end. It’s something I’ll get to in that part of the breakdown.
Let’s dive into Drums of Autumn Chapter 51.
