Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with Brianna and Claire at home. Lizzie claimed a headache and left them be, which was perfect for when Jamie got home. After all, there is much to discuss.

When Jamie gets home, he immediately lies. Claire asked him where he was and he made up some story about Fergus needing help and Ian staying there. He says the only reason he came home was to have Claire tend to his hand, which she confirms has a hairline fracture.

That’s the least of anyone’s worries right now. Claire is fearful of what Jamie will do when he finds out that Bree has been raped. After all, in this time, there would be a lot of shame on a family despite it not being a woman’s fault. It would all be placed on her.

Jamie remains calm, though. Bree tells him the truth and Jamie admits that he knows. He also tells Bree that it was Lizzie who told him. Bree may not have said anything, but Lizzie realized. If only they all knew they were talking about other people.

Claire leaves Jamie and Brianna to talk, but later, Jamie and Claire are the ones who decide to go outside to talk. That’s when Claire points out that the story Jamie has given about his hand is a lie. Jamie still doesn’t tell the full truth about it, but he does admit he hit something.

The two talk about whether Roger would raise a child that isn’t his. Jamie believes that Roger should do that or he’s not a man worth having around. Claire turns it on Jamie to see if he would do that. At first, he says he would, but then Claire wants to know if he’d be able to lay there every night knowing that his wife had been violated and a child came from that violation.

This brings up Frank. He stuck by Claire, even when she told him that she hadn’t been raped. He was there despite Claire making it clear she loved Jamie. Frank was there for Brianna, and there was nothing that would come between father and daughter. However, things weren’t right between Claire and Frank.

Jamie hopes that Roger is a better man than him and Frank. Brianna needs that.

And all this time, Claire keeps hold of the gold wedding band in her pocket. Brianna has asked Claire not to tell Jamie about the ring and about Bonnet. Jamie knows there’s something more but Claire asks him not to press for the information. She’s made a promise to Bree.
