Roger finally meets Jamie Fraser in Outlander Book 4, Chapter 46

We’re back to Roger in Outlander Book 4, Chapter 46, as he finally makes it to Fraser’s Ridge. He’s close to reuniting with Brianna.

However, Jamie and Young Ian come across him first. This meeting isn’t as positive as anyone really hoped it would be. It doesn’t help that Jamie has bad intel (not fully Lizzie’s fault considering what she saw!) and that Jamie is being a protective father.

Jamie has no idea that this is Roger. Had he heard that this was Roger, then maybe things would have been different. However, Roger was working with worries that Brianna had told Jamie something negative, while Jamie works with the information that he has.

It’s a chapter that was used in the show, but not in full. The dialogue wasn’t there. Why would the writers do that? I have some theories I’ll go into when looking at the chapter breakdown.

As for foreshadowing, there isn’t really that much. Instead, this is all about plot development. It certainly has a huge knock-on effect for what’s to come in the story. And it’s an important chapter within the whole story, despite only being 17 minutes long, especially knowing that Roger realizes that this is Jamie Fraser.

Let’s dive into Drums of Autumn Chapter 46.
