Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

There is a little bit of foreshadowing in the chapter. It’s all in the conversations about finding people. It’s clear that those people are about to come back in some sort of way.

The most important is Roger, who is using the name MacKenzie in the past but Brianna knows him as Wakefield. It’s no wonder nobody has come across anyone with that name. Roger wouldn’t use Wakefield when introducing himself.

It’s easy to see how mistakes are about to be made.

The button also comes up. It’s clear that this button is going to be far more important in the overall story.

Adapting the Drums of Autumn chapter

This chapter wasn’t used all that much on Outlander Season 4. Brianna didn’t spend time searching for Roger, because she wasn’t sure he was coming back. When Roger got called back (forced) onto Bonnet’s ship, Roger had to oblige and he didn’t have the chance to leave Brianna a note.

For a TV show, this made sense. It set up the drama as so much of the storyline was being condensed. However, I understand why those who are book-first fans were annoyed by the change to the storyline. It all comes down to what would work for all types of fans of the series, and this did work for most of those watching the show first. It’s a difficult balance for the writers.

The only part of the chapter that was kept in was the mention of what “Bree” means. This was changed and I didn’t really like the way it was changed. Jamie didn’t initially want to tell Brianna what it meant, which felt off. It felt like he and Murtagh were laughing at her rather than just telling her what her nickname means.

We did at least get the bonding moment as Brianna and Jamie talk about Claire pottering in her garden. I’m glad that moment was kept in as we needed to see the two get to know each other.
