STARZ has already brought us the images for Men in Kilts Season 1, Episode 4. The episode is all about witchcraft and superstition in Scotland.
Most people know about how people were superstitious in the past. Due to the lack of understanding of science and medicine, illnesses were often blamed on the Devil or on witches. This doesn’t make people uneducated. Remember that most people had never been outside their own village, so only knew what their local priests and ministers would tell them.
It wasn’t their fault that their priests and ministers would have “bad” information. And everyone was so religious that they believed everything that was said.
This is something Jamie brings up in Outlander when Claire questions the education of the villagers.
We’ve come a long way since then, but there are still some superstitions that are around today. But this isn’t about the Scotland of today. It’s about a look at witchcraft and superstitious beliefs of the past on Men in Kilts Season 1, Episode 4.
