Outlander Book Club: Drums of Autumn Chapter 37 breakdown
Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter
There isn’t too much in the way of foreshadowing in this chapter. It’s mostly about plot development, especially when it comes to the introduction of Morag.
However, the introduction of Morag does also offer a bit of foreshadowing. The woman with Morag asks Roger his name, and he’s decided to use the name MacKenzie. If Brianna can change her name to Fraser, why can’t he take his birth name?
The woman points out to Morag that he could be some sort of kin. This is where the foreshadowing is. There is a direct connection from Morag to Roger, but it’s going to take a few generations. Roger hasn’t worked it out just yet because it’s not really on his mind.
Adapting the Drums of Autumn chapter
Some of the chapter was used in the series. We got to see Roger’s experience on the ship, but not too much time. The focus was mostly on life at sea, a storyline that comes up in the next chapter.
However, we do get the moment of Morag and Roger meeting. After all, there’s no way the show could overlook this part of the book. Not only is it needed for the next part of the story, but Morag is also important for the next season of the series.
We don’t get to see Roger with the crew that much. There’s just no need for it in the long-term of the story, so the time available on the series is best spent on other elements.
