Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

There isn’t that much foreshadowing in the chapter. The main part is Jamie and Ian’s insistence that Brianna needs to travel with someone, and they want her to take a man with her. They know the dangers of the time period, even if they don’t realize that Brianna is from the future so may not fully appreciate the dangers.

I do think it foreshadows something bad to come. We know what’s going to happen to Brianna. Is it possible that if she had a manservant with her that Bonnet wouldn’t have raped her? It’s something we’ll never know now, but it is possible.

Adapting the Drums of Autumn chapter

This chapter had to be used, even just partly. We needed to see Brianna end up with Lizzie. The story was the same; it didn’t make sense in changing that.

The biggest change was that only Ian was with Brianna. There’s no point adding more cast to a TV show if the cast isn’t really needed. Remember that extra actors cost money, and that puts pressure on the production budget.

Plus, the TV show had included Bree’s feeling of guilt in this part of the series. It comes up earlier in Drums of Autumn as Brianna feels some guilt for looking into who Jamie Fraser was. After all, Frank was her dad. He raised her as such.

One of my favorite parts of the entire fourth season is on the dock. As Brianna says goodbye to Ian, she looks over to see Frank’s spirit giving her his blessing. It’s clearly Brianna feeling like Frank is just telling her that it’s okay to do this, but it’s important to see. She’s torn, and that’s understandable.

I get that some people don’t like the change that occurred throughout Outlander Season 4, Episode 7. I do, though, and it’s one of my favorite episodes of the whole season because of the much-needed development for Brianna.
