Claire, Jamie, and Young Ian start building their new life in Outlander Book 4, Chapter 19

Part Seven of Drums of Autumn picks up with Claire, Jamie, and now Young Ian at the land Claire and Jamie found a few chapters ago. It’s time to break down Outlander Book 4, Chapter 19.

This chapter does start off a little on the slower side. There’s a lot of catching us up on things that have happened, including the risk Claire and Jamie are taking at the moment. They’ve decided to start working on their new home right away instead of heading back to Jocasta until the next spring.

However, we get some beautiful moments later on once Duncan Innes turns up. Jamie shows his appreciation for the man that has remained by Jamie’s side all the way through Voyager and into the start of Drums of Autumn. It is certainly needed, and I’ll get to why that is when breaking down the full chapter.

While this chapter was partly used for the show, not much of it was. There were also some comments about the TV series being unrealistic in terms of sets, such as the perfectly cut wood. I didn’t mind the changes at this point in the story. Sometimes, I do find the book can drag things a long a little, getting things bogged down with too much detail.

On Audible, the chapter is about 40 minutes long. Just a word of warning, there are two longer chapters coming up. They’re not as long as Chapter 13 (and definitely not as long as a couple of Outlander Book 1 chapters!) but you may want to be ready to make sure you have enough time to read them. Look out for Chapters 21 and 23.

Let’s dive into Drums of Autumn Chapter 19.
