We head back to Brianna and Roger in the 20th century in Outlander Book 4, Chapter 17

We jump back to the 20th century for a couple of chapters. It’s time to see what Brianna and Roger are up to in Outlander Book 4, Chapter 17.

This is where the TV show gets things very wrong, in my opinion. Part of that is due to time available, but I also think part of it is due to spending more time on Claire and Jamie than was necessary. I’ll get to it in the adaptation section of the breakdown, but I’ve always believed that the show struggled with Bree and Roger early on.

That being said, the books get it right by slowly allowing us time to get to know the two characters. Chapter 17 is all from Roger’s point of view, but it doesn’t necessarily feel that way. I get this sense that we’re getting to know Bree well at the same time, even if it’s not her exact thoughts being explained.

I just wish there was a little more time with them. Instead, we get two chapters in Part Six of the story to focus on them. It’s a 44-minute chapter, and mostly just the two of them (and Uncle Angus).

Let’s dive into Drums of Autumn Chapter 17.
