When could Netflix U.S. get Outlander Season 5?

With some seasons of Outlander already on Netflix, fans understandably want to know if Outlander Season 5 will come to Netflix. Wouldn’t it be easier to have all seasons on Netflix?

While it would definitely be easier for fans of the series to have all seasons on Netflix, it wouldn’t make sense for STARZ. What’s the point in having all current seasons available on another platform? STARZ would lose some of its subscribers—those who remain subscribed to watch Outlander over and over again.

Sure, there are the DVD and Blu-ray releases. Doesn’t that take people away from STARZ? Sort of, but there will always be a preference to stream instead of get the physical copies of a TV series.

Putting all seasons on the biggest streaming network doesn’t make all that much sense.

But Outlander Season 5 will likely come to Netflix eventually. The question is when.

Outlander Season 5 could be on Netflix in 2022

Looking at how Seasons 3 and 4 came to Netflix, we can make an educated guess on the release of Outlander Season 5 on Netflix.

The third and fourth seasons dropped two years after the finale date. Outlander Season 3’s finale aired Dec. 10, 2017 and the full season dropped on Netflix on Dec. 10, 2019. Outlander Season 4’s finale aired on Jan. 27, 2019 and the full season drops on Jan. 27, 2021.

The Season 5 finale aired on May 10, 2020. With that in mind, we’re looking at May 10, 2022 as the release date on Netflix.

It will depend on the current contract with STARZ

Before Chris Albrecht left STARZ as the CEO, he made a deal with Netflix to bring the seasons to the streamer. In his mind, it was a good idea. It would get the series in front of more eyeballs in the U.S.

At first, it was just the first two seasons and then the third season joined later. However, Seasons 4 and 5 were still exclusive to STARZ, helping to bring more subscribers to the premium cable network. Now only Season 5 is exclusive, and there may be no exclusive seasons with how long Droughtlander can last.

New CEO Jeremy Hirsch doesn’t like the Netflix deal. So, once the contract is up, we could see Outlander pulled from Netflix. We’ll have to see whether STARZ has seen the return Albrecht thought it would with the Netflix deal to see if it will continue.

Right now, we’re expecting Outlander Season 5 on Netflix on May 10, 2022.
