There’s a medical interruption at dinner in Outlander Book 4, Chapter 12

Despite the incident at the sawmill, Jocasta arranges a dinner party in Outlander Book 4, Chapter 12. However, it is interrupted by a certain mountain man looking for a medical intervention.

This chapter certainly shows Claire’s ability to adapt. The conditions for the surgery aren’t right, but they’re never going to be in the 18th century. She just has to work with what she has and what is around her. Sometimes, it’s amazing that her patients don’t end up with an infection due to the time period.

In this case, it’s all about John Quincy Myers, who turns up looking for medical help. Claire has already told him she’d be able to help his current health situation, and he wants to let her do it. It just happens to be in front of an audience.

While this chapter was used, it wasn’t under the exact same circumstances. Claire did operate on someone in front of a crowd, but it was at the theater and not at Jocasta’s house. Why the change? I’ll get to my thoughts on that during the adaptation break down.

It is a chapter on the shorter side again, coming in at around 40 minutes. Just remember that the next chapter is a longer one at two hours in length. It’s packed full of juicy content.

Let’s dive into Drums of Autumn Chapter 12.
