Claire and Jamie arriving at River Run in Outlander Book 4, Chapter 10

We kick off Part Four of Drums of Autumn with Claire and Jamie’s arrival at River Run. Of course, some of the drama starts immediately. It’s time to breakdown Outlander Book 4, Chapter 10.

The start of the chapter is relatively calm. Claire and Jamie arrive, catch Jocasta up on everything that happened, and we initially feel like Jocasta could be a nice woman who just wants the best for her family.

It’s soon clear that’s not the case. She’s a MacKenzie at heart, and she has always reminded me a lot of Colum MacKenzie. She can be charming and kind, but she always has something going on behind the scenes. There’s a cunning element to her personality. It has often made me wonder what Ellen MacKenzie’s personality really was, and I can’t wait for the prequel story for that.

But let’s stick with this chapter. It’s one that was only partly used for the TV series. I think part of that may have been due to the difficulties of filming outside. There is a lot outside that would have required a few graphics and a few stunts. By changing the storyline, the show may have managed to keep things more in budget.

It is a longer-than-normal chapter, coming in at just short of an hour and a half on Audible. The last chapter of Part Four is longer. It comes in at about two hours (not the three hours I initially remembered it as!).

Let’s dive straight into Drums of Autumn Chapter 10.
