We head back to the 20th century to Bree and Roger in Outlander Book 4, Chapter 3

For the first time since the midpoint of Outlander Book 3, we head back to the 20th century. It’s time to find out what Brianna and Roger have been up to in Drums of Autumn Chapter 3.

This chapter is a relatively short one, especially compared to the previous two chapters. After starting the book with two one-hour chapters, we drop to just 30 minutes. That doesn’t mean it isn’t an important chapter.

After all, this is the one where we get to know a little more about Brianna. It’s the first time we have a chapter from Brianna’s point of view, getting to know more about her personally instead of the opinion of others.

The end of the chapter is from Roger’s point of view. In both cases, we get to know a little more about him and his thoughts about Brianna.

Most of this chapter was used in the series, but it was condensed and a character was skipped over. I’m kind of glad that the character of Gayle wasn’t used in the way she is in the book. She is a little insufferable just in the short introduction to her.

There is something the book does better in the book than the TV show, but it is more due to the lack of time available for the TV show. I’ll get into that in the adaptation section of this post.

Let’s dive into Drums of Autumn Chapter 3.
