Claire and Jamie help a pirate in Outlander Book 4, Chapter 2

It’s time for Claire and Jamie to do something that will bite them in the behind in Outlander Book 4, Chapter 2. They help a pirate who really should have been left to hang.

There are a lot of questions about why Jamie decides to help Stephen Bonnet in this chapter. I’ll get into my thoughts on those actions during the chapter breakdown. I suspect it is more to do with grief than thinking he should help a man. As he says, the authorities usually send the right men to their deaths.

This is one of the most important chapters of the book. It sets up so many future storylines, and not just in the sense that Jamie has let Stephen Bonnet escape. There is foreshadowing for a lot more that will happen in the story, and not just in the fourth book. Of course, Bonnet is the biggest part.

There’s no way the chapter could have been avoided. It was condensed a little and some elements were rearranged, but that was purely to make it work for a TV episode. There was something in the show included from the third book, and I’ll get to that in the adaptation section.

So, without further adieu, here’s a look at Drums of Autumn Chapter 2.
