Jamie is there for a friend in Outlander Book 4, Chapter 1

We’re starting the Outlander Book Club back up. It’s all about Drums of Autumn throughout January (and beyond), looking at how the chapter progressed and how the TV series adapted the chapter.

I’ve missed the book club throughout the winter break, but I’ll admit that I needed some time off to recharge. And now I’m ready to delve into the fourth book. Are you ready to join me?

This book sees Claire and Jamie in the New World. They remain in the colonies, knowing they can’t go back to Scotland without Jamie being arrested. However, Jamie wants to get Young Ian out of the colonies and back to Scotland. Does Young Ian want to go?

Drums of Autumn Chapter 1 does give us a little look into that. But it all starts off on a sad note, as Jamie is there for a friend at his hanging.

This is a chapter that was mostly used for the TV series. There were a few minor changes, but nothing that really changed the overall story. Plus, we still got to meet a very loveable animal.

I will admit that I don’t really connect to Gavin Hayes in the book as I do on the show. I’ll get to that in the adaptation section.

Let’s dive into Drums of Autumn Chapter 1.
