Will Outlander Season 6 continue John Quincy Myers’s development?
There’s one thing that I’ve loved about the Outlander TV show, and that’s been the ability to allow some of the side characters to grow more than they did in the books. As we keep an eye out for news about Outlander Season 6, I’m curious about how things will continue to develop for some characters.
John Quincy Myers is one of those characters that has had the chance to grow. He’s not around too much in the books. In fact, if the show had followed the books, we wouldn’t have had him in Season 5.
Yet, the character, like so many others in the past, took on a life of its own. The show moved out of just Claire’s opinions and descriptions of characters to deliver a more fleshed-out version. But there is still some work to be done.
There isn’t a storyline for John Quincy Myers in future books
Right now, JQM isn’t part of the Outlander books. He last pops up at the Gathering in The Fiery Cross, which is a much longer affair than happened in the TV series. He was never part of those who joined by Jamie’s side against the Regulators (as much as none of them wanted to do so) or answered the call to go to war to save Claire.
The character has changed considerably, and that’s not a bad thing. We’ve got to know him more. We’ve seen the loyalty he offers the Frasers because they saved his life from the “bear” attack. He’s more than just someone who can trade and translate for everyone. He is his own person, just like he should be.
And because of the changes to the character already, there is a chance that he could return in Outlander Season 6.
We haven’t seen him in any videos yet. While Season 6 hasn’t started filming yet, the cast is getting ready. There’s been no sight of Kyle Rees, who plays the character on the series, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be part of the season. We’ve only seen the core four actors so far as they promote the season, with the odd Q&A video from some of the others.
There’s hope that we’ll get to see more of the rugged Welshman. He certainly is one worth keeping around.
