Don’t miss the start of Book 4 with the Outlander Book Club

If there’s one thing I’ve enjoyed throughout 2020, it’s doing the Outlander Book Club. It’s been fun working through the books chapter-by-chapter and reading your thoughts about them.

Not only have we been able to discuss the chapters, but also some of the foreshadowing within the books. There’s also been a chance to look at how the chapters were adapted or why they were likely skipped over completely.

We ended 2020 with Voyager. Now it’s time to get ready for Drums of Autumn to kick off 2021 in style.

I know one thing you’ve wanted to know is when we’ll get back to reading the chapters. There isn’t long to wait.

We start Drums of Autumn of Diana Gabaldon’s birthday

I’ve needed some time to focus on family during the holiday season. In Ontario, we have a province-wide lockdown, which sees the children at home doing distance learning. My children are in elementary school, so they only have a week of distance learning, but I need to be able to put my focus on them right now.

They’re supposed to go back on Jan. 11, which happens to be Diana Gabaldon’s birthday. Whether they go back or not, that’s going to be the date to restart the Outlander Book Club.

Get Monday, Jan. 11 in your diary. What better day to start reading one of Gabaldon’s books.

Will we get ahead of the show?

One thing many have asked is whether we’ll read the books from A Breath of Snow and Ashes and onward. Of course, you certainly can.

Will I continue these breakdowns? That I’m not 100% certain about just yet. With the length of Drums of Autumn and The Fiery Cross, we’ll get through a decent amount of this year, and with some luck, we’ll be getting ready for Outlander Season 6 by the time we reach A Breath of Snow and Ashes.

With five chapters per week (one per weekday), we’re looking at 14 weeks (ish) for Drums of Autumn and then 22 weeks (ish) for The Fiery Cross. That gives us about 15 weeks to finish off 2021 if we run the two books back to back, and you know I like to take a short break between each book to prepare for the next.

I definitely won’t do the Outlander Book Club while the show is on the air, purely because I just can’t manage it all!

So, I have time to figure out what to do. One of the issues I have with moving onto A Breath of Snow and Ashes and onward is the TV show adaptation section. It simply can’t happen. If I hold off Book 6 for after Season 6, I can do that one.

I’d love to know what you’d love to see if we continue the books and get ahead of the show, meaning now TV show adaptation.

Maybe a wishlist or a look at whether a chapter could be adapted for the show?

Next. The Outlander books in chronological order. dark

For now, let’s focus on Outlander Book 4, which starts on Jan. 11.
