Claire learns a secret Jamie has kept from her in Outlander Book 3, Chapter 59

Jamie is questioned about Mr. Willoughby in Outlander Book 3, Chapter 59, giving Claire a chance to talk to Lord John Grey. She learns a few secrets about her husband, but not the ones she feared.

This is the chapter Claire finds out about Willie. I’ll admit that I’ve always preferred the way the show handled it, mostly because of what Claire thinks later in this chapter. Why didn’t Jamie trust Claire with a secret like this? It’s not like it involved time traveling!

Jamie does have an explanation for holding back on sharing the truth. Is it enough? For some it will be, but for me it isn’t.

However, this chapter also gives Claire a chance to explain to the reader a little more about her dislike about Lord John Grey—more like her ridiculous jealousy of him. Yes, I think her jealousy of Lord John Grey is ridiculous, and I’d say that to her if she was a real person.

It’s a chapter that was only partly used on the show. There was a lot missing mostly because the whole murderer storyline was left out from the TV series. One thing the chapter does, though, is get Claire and Jamie back on the same page. They also now have another reason to race against the clock to find Young Ian.
