Claire and Jamie meet a slave named Ishmael in Outlander Book 3, Chapter 55

Claire and Jamie meet another slave in Outlander Book 3, Chapter 55, and Claire wonders whether he’s a relation to someone important in her life. It’s time to delve into the chapter.

Since the chapter involving the Bruja pirates boarding the Artemis wasn’t used, it shouldn’t be too surprising to hear that this chapter wasn’t used either. Claire and Jamie had another way of finding Young Ian, which made sense for the sake of time.

However, this chapter connects back to Claire’s time in the future. It has a direct connection to Joe Abernathy, and we see what his son’s need to be called Ishmael foreshadowed at long last.

This chapter also involves a lot of its own foreshadowing. It gives us something to think about as we continue the journey to Jamaica to find Young Ian. We’ll get to that in the foreshadowing section.

Overall, it’s a great chapter for the book, but the book did foreshadow this. In terms of the overall story, there was another way of dealing with it when it came to the show. And I’ll get to my thoughts on that in the adaptation section.

Let’s delve into the 36-minute chapter of Voyager.
