Apple TV+ has renewed Ronald D. Moore’s space show For All Mankind for Season 3

We here at Claire and Jamie like to support Outlander’s cast and crew in all their projects, and that support definitely extends to the show’s creator Ronald D. Moore.  His latest project is For All Mankind on Apple TV+.

Deadline reported on Dec. 8 that For All Mankind has been renewed for a third season before the second season has even premiered.  Similarly, the show’s second season was ordered before the show had even aired.  This project seems to be a successful one for Apple TV+.

For All Mankind marks Moore’s return to familiar territory, that of outer space.  He’s previously been involved in projects like Battlestar Galactica.  The new show is an alternative history of the Space Race between the United States and the USSR.

For All Mankind will be returning to screens in February and getting back to filming next spring

The series debuted in Nov. 2019, and Season 2 is set to return on Feb. 19, 2021.  Filming on the second season was interrupted by COVID-19, but they were able to resume in Aug. 2020.  Season 3 production is scheduled to start next spring.

"For All Mankind explores what would have happened if the global space race had never ended. The series presents an aspirational world where NASA astronauts, engineers and their families find themselves in the center of extraordinary events seen through the prism of an alternate history timeline — a world in which the USSR beats the US to the moon."

Season 2 will pick up about a decade after Season 1 ended with new (or aged) characters played by Cynthy Wu, Coral Peña, and Casey W. Johnson.  They join cast members Joel Kinnaman, Michael Dorman, and Sarah Jones, among others.  The show’s executive producers are Ronald D. Moore, Maril Davis, Ben Nedivi, and Matt Wolpert.

Ronald D. Moore is a master storyteller, and he really gets a chance to stretch his talent on For All Mankind.  It is an original creation, not based on any book or pre-existing material.  I’m definitely planning to subscribe to Apple TV+ soon so I can check out this show.  Will you join me?
