Claire’s standout moments from Outlander Season 3, Episode 12

Claire immediately gets to experience Jamaica of the past on Outlander Season 3, Episode 12. It’s time to revisit the episode on the anniversary of it first airing.

“The Bakra” sees Claire and Jamie get to Jamaica. That opens her eyes to the slave trade, and the abhorrent practices both overall and in the market stalls. She also meets a ghost of the past. Here’s a look at Claire’s standout moments from Outlander Season 3, Episode 12.

Wanting to split up to search for Young Ian

When Claire and Jamie arrive, they have a lot to do in a short period of time. They need to find Young Ian, and she knows the best option would be to split up. Jamie doesn’t want to do that.

She is right that they would be quicker splitting up, but it’s a good thing that didn’t happen. She had only separated from Jamie for a few minutes when she couldn’t control herself at the market!

Nursing her injured arm

Throughout the arrival in Jamaica, we see Claire nurse her injured arm. This is actually a great Caitriona Balfe moment, as I’m sure it’s something she thought of for the episode. After all, the arm would have still hurt after being cut on the branch.

This didn’t last during the Governer’s Ball, though. However, I loved it while it lasted.

Arranging to free the slave

Claire cannot own a slave. She hates the fact that Jamie put the papers in her name. However, there was nothing else Jamie could do after her actions at the slave market.

During this episode, I didn’t mind her outburst. It becomes a problem on Outlander Season 4, Episode 2, but this moment is the first time she’s seen the slave market. It’s her first experience of slavery at the time, so her reaction was human and understandable.

Understanding Lord John Grey’s feelings

During the ball, Claire gets a chance to talk to Lord John Grey alone. The two actually start on friendly terms. She remembers John as the young boy who saved her virtue. No, her virtue did not need saving, but it were the thought and actions that counted.

However, Claire clearly realizes that Lord John Grey has feelings for Jamie. She can tell just by the look in his eye and the fact he kept the sapphire. Her guard immediately goes up, and she’s also jealous. I’ve never fully understood the jealousy considering what she knows of Jamie’s feelings, but human reactions are odd at times.

Happy to see Geillis

Claire finally finds Geillis Duncan during Outlander Season 3, Episode 12. At first, she’s happy to find her old friend, interested in how Geillis has ended up on the island. Having this 20-year separation is great for the exposition since Claire is learning it at the same time as us.

However, the happiness turns sour. Claire is suspicious of Geillis, especially when she learns from her slave that Mrs. Abernathy took Young Ian. Geillis lied to her face.
