Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

When it comes to foreshadowing, there isn’t that much. This chapter is more about pushing the story forward. It’s about giving us the hint of drama to come when we get to Jamaica.

The only foreshadowing that I do see is when Elias Pound is tired. We know that he’s not going to make it through this sickness. This is foreshadowing of something bad to come because he’s so selfless in making sure Claire gets his rest.

We also get a hint of the help Mrs. Johansen will offer later. Claire describes Mrs. Johansen as her left hand to Pound’s right hand. This is important when it comes to Claire needing to find a way to warn Jamie about trouble in Jamaica.

Adapting the Voyager chapter

Some of the chapter was used for Outlander Season 3, but not all of it. We got to see Claire treating the patients on the ship, and it didn’t take look long for her to find the source of the infection. This part had to be sped up for the sake of time available in the episode.

The change came to the use of Tompkins. He didn’t tell Claire everything. Part of this is because the story told didn’t happen on the show. We didn’t get the trouble at Arbroath and there was no traitor among Jamie’s men.

Instead, “Tompkins” was someone working for Sir Percival. He went to the print shop and happened to come across the sedition, which was then used to arrest Jamie in Jamaica.

In the end, the small changes didn’t matter to the overall storyline. The ending was still the same, with some amusing additions for Lord John Grey.
