Claire gets to know Duncan Innes in Outlander Book 3, Chapter 43
During Outlander Book 3, Chapter 43, Claire gets to know Duncan Innes, realizing why he can’t be the traitor. It’s time to breakdown the Voyager chapter.
The chapter is still a relatively quiet one, although doesn’t have a romantic Claire and Jamie moment. Instead, it’s about Claire back in her element, trying to keep Jamie’s men healthy.
However, she also notes that the men don’t come to Jamie for as much as the tenants at Lallybroch would. There’s something different about the bond between these men, and only Jamie and Duncan can explain that.
It’s a chapter that wasn’t used on the TV show. There wasn’t that much need of it considering Duncan Innes wasn’t introduced on the show until partway through Outlander Season 5. I don’t think this was just about finding a way to put Murtagh and Jocasta together at the time considering the initial thoughts on how to deal with Murtagh’s storyline, so I’ll get to my thoughts on taking out this chapter in the show in the adaption section.
It’s a chapter on the shorter side, coming in at just 20 minutes on Audible. However, it is an interesting one as we get to know more about the men who are involved in Jamie’s smuggling business.
