Claire and Jamie talk about the moon in Outlander Book 3, Chapter 42

Outlander Book 3, Chapter 42 gives Claire and Jamie a little time alone. They get to discuss the moon and Brianna.

While it’s not an important chapter for the overall story, it is an important chapter for Claire and Jamie. We haven’t had many of these quiet moments since Claire’s return to the past. The two tend to be thrown into some other drama by the end of whatever chapter their quiet moments fall in.

This chapter is just about them. It’s about the two connecting on a personal level, while also connecting over their daughter, Brianna. Claire considers Bree in the future and the freedoms there while trying to find a way to explain them to Jamie.

Some of this chapter was developed for the series. It was done slightly differently, as the photo moment that is used in this chapter was kept to earlier in the season. Instead, the show opted to bring in the novel Goodnight, Moon and continued the theme of Bree’s favorite toy, the bunny. Why would the show do that? I’ll get to my thoughts about it that second.

The chapter is on the shorter side, coming in at less than 30 minutes. That doesn’t make me love it less!

Let’s get into the breakdown of Voyager Chapter 42.
