5 best Jamie moments from Outlander Season 3, Episode 8
Jamie’s standout moments from Outlander Season 3, Episode 8
Jamie takes Claire back to Lallybroch on Outlander Season 3, Episode 8, but it’s not a warm welcome. At the same time, Jamie has to deal with the situation he’s now in. He’s officially a bigamist and Jenny is about to let him just get away with it.
It’s time to breakdown the episode on the anniversary of its airing. Here are Jamie’s five best moments from “First Wife.”
Finding another way to punish Young Ian
Ian and Jenny are not happy with Jamie, and for understandable reasons. He didn’t even tell them that he knew Young Ian was with him. Ian feels like Jamie knows what it’s like to be Young Ian’s father that he hands Jamie the belt. It’s up to Jamie to punish Young Ian.
Jamie wants to try a different form of punishment. This involves work that Young Ian definitely doesn’t want to do. We see him attempt to be a different man, although Ian clearly doesn’t know if it’s going to change anything.
Telling Claire about the escape from Ardsmuir
When Jamie and Claire get a chance to be alone in a room, he has the opportunity to tell her about Silkie Island. It’s time to find out about what he did, why he was on the island.
It’s an important part for Jamie. He has a chance to share how Claire was always on his mind. He always hoped that she would come back for him.
Hogmanay with Laoghaire’s daughters
After finding out about Laoghaire, Jamie tells Claire why he ended up marrying her. It wasn’t really Laoghaire. It was all about her two daughters.
We get to see how Marsali and Joanie were the ones to pull him out of a slump during Hogmanay. Whether Laoghaire put them up to it isn’t clear, but it was good for Jamie’s soul. He didn’t want to not have that again. It’s such a human reaction, and I was glad that we got his chance to share that story.
Jamie refusing to turn the pistol over
Again, it all comes back to his connection to Marsali and Joanie. Claire would happily turn the pistol over and risk having Laoghaire indentured and sent to the Colonies. There’s no love lost there. For Jamie, it’s not about Laoghaire.
He knows they’ll feel the loss with him gone. While he’s not lived with them much, it’s clear that they have connected to him and he’s connected to them. He can’t have them lose their mother, too. I have a lot of respect for a man who will think of the girls even if it causes him financial hardship.
Not letting Claire go
At the very end, Claire isn’t sure if she should stay. She’s filled with doubt because that fairytale of her return hasn’t turned out to be true. However, Jamie isn’t willing to give Claire up without a fight.
He clearly wants Claire to stay. He wants her to remain with him. He has been nothing without her, and he can’t lose her now that she’s returned to him.
