5 best Claire moments from Outlander Season 3, Episode 8
Claire’s standout moments from Outlander Season 3, Episode 8
Claire returned to Lallybroch on Outlander Season 3, Episode 8. It was never going to be a warm welcome, but Claire had to be on the receiving end of Jenny’s anger and pain.
If only that was the issue. Laoghaire turned up with her daughters, causing plenty of other problems and making her wonder if she should stay. It’s time to break down her best moments from “First Wife.”
Trying to reconcile with Jenny and Ian
Claire shows up at Lallybroch attempting to reconcile with Jenny and Ian. She wants to be welcomed back, hopes that they can all move past the 20 years of no information, but she quickly realizes that it isn’t going to happen. Jenny can barely be in the same room as Claire.
And Claire doesn’t exactly blame Jenny for it at first. It’s only when it leads to Laoghaire showing up that Claire gets angry. Up to that point, Claire can understand how hurt Jenny must feel.
Wanting to tell Jenny the truth
Knowing that Jenny is never going to accept Claire back, Claire wants to do the one thing she knows will help. She wants to tell Jenny the truth. Murtagh believed Claire, so why not Jenny?
It’s Jamie that stops Claire from telling her. I wish they would have told her the truth at this point. Jenny may not have fully understood it, but she would have accepted it more than the story that was concocted.
Treating Jamie
Despite everything that has happened up to this point, Claire isn’t going to let Jamie die. She doesn’t just treat the gunshot wound, but she uses her penicillin to get rid of the infection.
We see the surgeon in her. Despite her anger toward Jamie, she’s able to treat him. We also see that she still loves him.
Wanting a second chance
After finding out about Laoghaire and treating Jamie, Claire now has a chance to reconcile with Jenny properly. Jenny has started to show some regret for everything that happened, knowing her actions led to Jamie being shot in the arm.
Jenny and Claire get a chance to share some truths. Jenny shares how she didn’t question anything in the past and viewed Claire as a sister. Claire shares that she never forgot the family and never took Jamie’s wedding ring off. It’s a start, although it’s clear things will never be as good as it was 20 years earlier.
Admitting she isn’t sure if she should stay
I know there were a lot of complaints about this on Outlander Season 3, Episode 8, but I love Claire’s uncertainty. It felt real and honest. Things haven’t been the fairytale she likely hoped for, and now she’s not sure if everything she left behind was worth it.
Claire questions whether she made the right choice. She’s honest with Jamie, and that’s important here. She doesn’t hide her feelings but tells him straight. By her telling him, there’s a way for them to reconnect.
