Droughtlander suggestions: Watch Jamestown for a touch of the Colonies
Jamestown is an excellent show to help Outlander fans get through the break
With no end currently in sight to the Droughtlander we’re in, Outlander fans are looking for ways to spend the time. Jamestown is a series that is more than worth checking out right now.
With Claire and Jamie in the New World, it makes sense to turn to a series about how the New World got started. We’re heading back to the 17th century, a time when the Virginia colony of Jamestown was only just beginning.
Let’s take a look at what it’s about and why it’s perfect for Outlander fans right now.
What is Jamestown about?
The PBS series starts off as about three women who come from England to the Virigina colony. Their passage is bought for them, as they agree to marry men they have never met. It’s supposed to be a chance at a new life, but that doesn’t mean a good life!
They soon realize that the men aren’t anything like the ones back home. If they are going to survive their new world, they need to band together. That could have its own problems if their husbands have any say in it.
As the seasons progress, we see more of the colony and the life of the people of the time. We also get to see the Native tribes that live in the surrounding areas, and there are touches on slavery during the time.
There are three seasons to the story. The first season is available on Amazon Prime Video for free for November 2020. The second and third seasons are available with a subscription to PBS Masterpiece.
Why this is a great option for Outlander fans
Not all relationships are as great as Claire and Jamie’s. We know that, and you’re most certainly not going to get that on Jamestown. If you’re looking for a great romance, then this isn’t the Droughtlander suggestion for you.
So, who is it for? If you love Outlander for the drama and the focus on some of the historical events, then you’ll want to pay attention to Jamestown. It gives us a look at life in the Colonies in the early 17th century. The first season is set in 1619.
This is all about how the Colonies were set up in the first place, how hard it was for people to start a new life. It’s a look at what the whites did to everyone else, although it doesn’t quite go into this as much as it could and should.
It is a fun show, though. It’s more of a period soap opera, and we all need something like that now and then, right?
