Claire is forced to say goodbye in Outlander Book 3, Chapter 23

After telling Roger that she couldn’t bear to say goodbye to Brianna in the previous chapter, she doesn’t get a choice in Outlander Book 3, Chapter 23.

It’s time for the last chapter in Claire’s present time. We’ll head back to the 20th century through memories and to catch up on what Roger and Brianna are doing, but Claire won’t set foot in the time period again. It certainly is an occasion in the story to mark.

This six-minute (yes, only six-minute) chapter offers an important moment for Brianna. She is ready to say goodbye to her mom. She also makes it clear that Jamie needs to know the truth. While she’s certainly been spoiled growing up, I’ve never viewed her as a brat. She’s just struggled with her emotions, but this chapter shows that she does think of other people.

While the chapter is important and was used in the series, it wasn’t used exactly. We didn’t get to see Claire back at the stones, and I’ll go into why I think that was (and why I didn’t mind it) in the TV show breakdown.

Are you ready to take a look at Voyager Chapter 23? We’re onto the last chapter of Part Five of the story.
