Claire can’t face saying goodbye to Brianna in Outlander Book 3, Chapter 22
During Outlander Book 3, Chapter 22, Claire’s decision has been made. At least, deep down it has. However, that doesn’t mean she can face saying goodbye.
This is an important chapter to show Brianna growing up and coming to terms with her mother leaving for the past. It’s an important chapter to show Claire’s internal struggle to leave her daughter behind. However, I will say that I wish there was a bit more of it for Claire. I didn’t feel there was quite enough for a mother choosing to leave her daughter to time travel and know she will probably never return.
The TV show adapted this chapter a little deeper. It gave us more of the way Claire was torn in her decision, and how it was Brianna who finally helped her leave. It was Brianna’s sacrifice that gave Claire the push she needed. I’ll get to that in the breakdown of how things were adapted.
Voyager Chapter 22 is the second-to-last chapter of Part Five. It won’t be long for Claire and Jamie to reunite, and it’s taken about 30% of the book to get here.
The chapter is about 20 minutes, and the next chapter is one of the shortest of the whole of the book, so even time-wise, there’s not long to get to the reunion now.
Let’s breakdown the Voyager chapter. Are you ready?
