There are a lot of questions about the future of our favorite TV shows. With so many shows “unrenewed,” there are fears that Outlander Season 6 isn’t going to happen.

Is that going to be the case? Is Outlander a series that will be “unrenewed?”

Honestly, it’s unlikely. The time-traveling drama is one of the biggest shows on STARZ behind Power. This is just based on the live ratings, and it doesn’t include the viewership directly through the app, which is the more popular way for people to watch. So, it would be ridiculous for the premium cable network to cancel the show.

The pandemic isn’t making things easy, though. Season 6 filming hasn’t started yet, and the latest rumors are that it won’t start until January. Every now and then, we get a tease of a start date, but it’s clear that our series isn’t a pandemic-friendly show.

Outlander Season 6 pre-production work is happening

The writing is still going on. That started well before the pandemic, getting as much ready for filming as possible. The initial plan was to film in May 2020, so scripts had to be ready for that.

While the likes of Supernatural, The Conners, and The Witcher have been able to get back to filming, our series still hasn’t. Part of it is to do with the pandemic numbers in the UK, but there are other shows that have started filming over there. The biggest issue is the sheer size of the show, according to Maril Davis to Cinema Blend.

It’s not a small show. The number of extras needed is much bigger than most broadcast TV shows. That’s especially the case when it comes to the battles, and there will be some on Outlander Season 6 and ahead with the Revolutionary War coming up.

So, Season 6 is happening, but it’s not filming just yet. There’s no official start date just yet, but Davis and her team has a start date in mind.

It’s going to be one hell of a Droughtlander, but together, we can get through it. I don’t think it will happen before 2022.
