Earlier today Sam shared a video on Instagram and Twitter announcing the exciting news. Our favorite Outlander actor shared his phone number, so we can text him to talk about exciting projects he’s working on, to check in now and then, or even just to talk about random things and share a whisky.

What you have to do

The whole process is super easy. All you have to do is text the number +1 310-356-3929. You’ll receive an automated message right away directing you to a link that will add your phone number to Sam’s contacts list. Once you fill the form out, you’ll receive another automated text to confirm your submission, and then you’re all set to add Sam’s number into your phone as well.

For now, this is only open to American and Canadian residents.

Sam mentioned one reason he’s doing this is because of catfishers, who have pretended to be him and ask fans for money. This way, fans know they’re receiving messages from the real Sam Heughan and not a fake profile.

I mean this is crazy, right? Not many people can say they can text their favorite celebrity, especially someone as popular as Sam. Even he admits he knows it’s a crazy idea, but still went ahead and did it!

You guys, my heart is racing just thinking about this awesome opportunity Sam has given us! He’s been really open with fans which can be hard and not very common. He’s constantly given back to his fans and it can’t get more personal than this. We truly are a lucky bunch!

I haven’t stopped smiling since I saw his tweet, and I’m sure all of you feel the same way. Just remember to be patient. I’m sure Sam is getting hundreds of texts and is working hard to answer each one. He’s given us an amazing opportunity, the least we can do is be patient.
