Claire and Roger are closer to finding Jamie in Outlander Book 3, Chapter 17

We end Voyager Part Four with a chapter back in 1968. Claire and Roger discuss how they’re much closer to finding Jamie in Outlander Book 3, Chapter 17.

This is one of those chapters that’s a nice filler for the series. It takes a breather from the drama of Jamie’s life in the past, while catching Claire and Roger up to where we’ve got to in his story. It’s a little like they’re imagining his life in the past at this point in the story, so we only really learn what they’ve learned.

While it’s a breather in the book, it’s not something used in the series. Part of this is because the mentions of the portals under the water of Loch Ness were never used in the first season—this chapter does have a connection back to Outlander—and another part is that it just wasn’t needed for the show.

The important parts of the chapter were mentioned in the show. We didn’t really need the trip to Loch Ness. Instead, the show filled in a few gaps throughout the 20 years and gave us more time with Brianna and Roger together. I’ll get to why those moments were important in the show breakdown.

On Audible, the chapter comes in at 21 minutes. It’s certainly on the shorter side, but most of the upcoming chapters in Part Five are somewhat shorter. We’re getting closer to Claire and Jamie reuniting.

Here’s our breakdown of Voyager Chapter 17.
