Outlander Book 9 Daily Lines: An update on the White Sow
We get an update on the White Sow in the latest Outlander Book 9 spoilers
Monday was Thanksgiving in Canada and Columbus Day in the United States. To mark the day, Diana Gabaldon shared one of her Outlander Book 9 Daily Lines.
Just like all the others, there isn’t much in the way of major plot spoilers. There’s a moment when names are redacted to avoid big spoilers in the overall story, but that’s not what I want to focus on.
We get an update on the White Sow in the Outlander Book 9 Daily Lines. Yes, it turns out that darned pig is still out there.
What is the White Sow up to in Outlander Book 9?
It’s only a brief mention at the end of the spoilers. Claire tells Jamie that she saw the White Sow with a couple of her daughters (or maybe granddaughters). While Claire would never be able to estimate the size the way Jamie can (I can completely relate to Claire on that!), she could tell just from the look that the two other pigs were related to the White Sow.
The last I can remember seeing the White Sow was in A Breath of Snow and Ashes (although please feel free to correct me if I’ve forgotten about her in the two later books). The White Sow had managed to escape through a burrow under the house at the end of the book, and nobody knows what happened to her after that.
Well, it looks like she’s been doing well for herself. She’s alive, has children, and is enjoying life in a cave. And she’s definitely not ended up as a pork chop or two.

It’s still a shame the White Sow couldn’t be included fully in Outlander Season 4. This is one of those animal characters that gets up to so much. However, there’s no way a pig could have been trained to do everything the White Sow does in the book, so it was easier to just mention trouble this pig had caused, including the eating of Jamie’s hat.
