We continue the story with Jamie at Lallybroch in Outlander Book 3, Chapter 5
During Outlander Book 3, Chapter 5, Jamie heads to the house because things seem a little too quiet. However, it’s not quiet enough.
It’s an important chapter for a few reasons. We get a sense of the stress that the English patrols have caused on the family, and not just with Ian being taken. There’s also the birth of Young Ian, who will become an important part of the story later (little did we know it at this point). However, it’s also the start of Jamie realizing that he needs to turn himself in.
This is a chapter that involves the English being too close for comfort. Jamie is so close to being caught, and that would mean everyone in the house would be arrested. There’s no way even Young Jamie would probably get away with knowing that his uncle had been hiding out in the area. It’s not quite the nail in the coffin just yet.
It shouldn’t be that surprising to hear the chapter was used for the TV series. It was adapted slightly to make it shorter, keeping the focus on the main drama within the chapter, but it was used. After all, it’s a necessary moment in the story.
On Audible, the chapter comes in at a little more than an hour in length. It’s the longest of the three chapters in Part Two.
