Ratched on Netflix will offer some reprieve from Droughtlander

We now know that Droughtlander is going to be a little longer than we’d initially hoped. You’re probably looking for more shows to get through the break, and Ratched on Netflix is our latest suggestion.

This is nothing like Outlander in the slightest, and that’s what makes it such a great suggestion. There’s no need to compare anything between the shows because of it. Watch Ratched just for the enjoyment of another show.

What is Ratched on Netflix?

The series follows Nurse Mildred Ratched in the years prior to her time at Salem State Hospital, where she is during One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. This is a very different character we come to know in the 1962 novel, offering us a chance to see how and why she becomes the nurse that she is.

It all starts with her manipulating her way into the hospital run by Dr. Hanover, and it’s clear that it has something to do with “The Priest Killer,” Edmund. The question for a while is what that connection is.

Don’t expect the storyline to go the way you’d initially expect. Ryan Murphy created this series and it has all the twists and turns of early American Horror Story.

There is currently only one season to binge-watch right now. However, the show was picked up with a two-season order right away, so there will be more to the story to come.

Why Ratched is so great for Outlander fans

If it’s nothing like Outlander, why is it a Droughtlander suggestion? Well, it is an excellently written series. It keeps you on your toes, wondering what Mildred will do next. She has secrets that she needs to protect, and she’s not afraid to kill to protect those secrets.

However, it’s not all about her. There are some excellent performances from other stars, especially Sophie Okonedo. Okonedo plays a patient at the facility who suffers from Multiple Personality Disorder. You can tell immediately which personality she is at the time, embodying everything about who they are physically and within her voice. It’s an outstanding performance that will have you mesmerized.

The show also offers a look at medicine in the years before Outlander‘s Claire becomes a doctor. It’s the years before and just as Claire returns through the stones, starting in 1947. There are some ghastly practices to treat patients, but there are also some important steps being made in medicine overall.

There is certainly a reminder of everything Claire worked against as a female in medicine, especially a female doctor.

Over the course of the eight episodes, we get to know Mildred Ratched more. If you’ve ever been intrigued about how she became the nurse she is in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, this series will help explain.
