Outlander Book 3, Chapter 3 starts the search for Jamie through the records

Claire, Roger, and Brianna start their search for Jamie through historical records in Outlander Book 3, Chapter 3. This is also when we learn more about Claire’s time after returning from the 18th century.

One thing books can do that shows can’t is do a lot of jumping between timelines. It’s possible to use breaks in the writing, making it clear when we’re moving to different characters’ thoughts or going to a memory instead of sticking with the current string of events.

It’s a little harder to do that with a TV show. Just look at how many people got confused during the Outlander Season 2 premiere. It shows that flashbacks should only be used minimally. How does that connect to this chapter? I’ll get into it in the adaptation breakdown of this piece.

After all, this chapter jumps between Claire’s present-day and memories of the past. We get the story of Claire’s return from the stones, but also the story of her, Claire, and Brianna starting their search for Jamie.

This is a chapter on the longer side compared to the previous one. However, I will say that Voyager chapters tend to be closer to the hour in length for the most part. There’s a lot of content to cover—and it’s no wonder Season 3 was a difficult one to create.

It’s time to breakdown Voyager Chapter 3. Are you ready?
