Jamie’s standout moments from Outlander Season 3, Episode 3

During Outlander Season 3, Episode 3, we split time between Claire’s life in Boston and Jamie’s life at Ardsmuir Prison. It’s time to look back at Jamie’s best moments on the anniversary of the episode.

The episode gave us a couple of surprises, with the main one being that Murtagh had survived Culloden and was now at Ardsmuir. We also got to meet Leslie and Hayes, who would become important characters later in the season and into the Season 4 premiere. Of course, it was also the introduction of David Berry as Lord John Grey.

What were Jamie’s best moments from Outlander Season 3, Episode 3? Here are my five favorite ones.

Recognizing Lord John Grey

When Jamie first sees Lord John Grey, he immediately senses that he recognizes him. He just can’t place it at first. It’s only later on that he realizes this was the boy he had let live before Prestonpans.

We get a fun conversation between Jamie and Murtagh about how Murrays all look alike because of this. It also leads to Jamie’s initial opinions about LJG, which are good ones.

Remembering Claire’s healing skills

There are a couple of times Jamie brings up Claire’s healing skills. The first is when it comes to the use of some leafy greens to help Murtagh with the illness that’s affecting him in Ardsmuir. He won’t say Claire’s name at first, but Murtagh knows where Jamie learned everything from. We see the pain in both of their eyes.

The next time is when he’s trying to get Lord John Grey to allow the men to hunt for meat and pick watercress. The greens are necessary to fight off scurvy, and he trusts Claire to tell him the truth about that.

Making a deal for Murtagh

Jamie agrees to listen to a man who speaks in Gaelic and French. However, he’ll only do it for medicine and blankets. Lord John Grey can’t source enough for everyone, so Jamie cuts it down to just requiring medicine and blankets for one man: Murtagh.

We see that loyal side to him. He will always have Murtagh’s back, and Murtagh is the one that needs the help the most right now.

Finding a way to the island

Jamie manages to escape Ardsmuir Prison. It may seem odd to the prison guards that he doesn’t exactly try to get away too much. Instead, he just wants to head to one island, believing that Claire is there.

It’s clear the man was talking about Geillis Duncan on Outlander Season 3, Episode 3. However, we get that renewed sense of hope. Had Claire come back for him? It’s only human to hope that.

Opening up to Lord John Grey

In the end, Jamie opens up a little to Lord John Grey. Jamie tells him that Claire was his wife, and he admits that he has a good opinion of Lord John Grey’s character. While there is a darker moment when LJG puts his hand on Jamie’s hand, there’s still a lot of positivity coming from the moments with LJG.

The biggest one is the friendship that forms. This is a friendship that will remain important for years to come.
