Claire’s standout moments from Outlander Season 3, Episode 3

Outlander Season 3, Episode 3 was the last of the third season episodes to feature Frank. It was a standout episode of Claire, as we caught up with her learning the truth about Jamie being alive.

This is one of those episodes that stirs a lot of debate. It also stirs anger toward Frank, although I can see his side of the argument a lot of the time. The scenes certainly bring some standout moments for Claire.

Here are my favorite five moments from Outlander Season 3, Episode 3.

English breakfast

We start the episode with Frank cooking an English breakfast, complete with black pudding. It stirs a conversation between the parents, as Claire suggests that they go to see a movie that night.

This is when Claire learns that Frank has been seeing other people. At least, that’s something he tells Claire. I do have to question his wording, but it’s clear that Claire believes that he is seeing other people. She’s shocked, admitting that he has certainly been discrete.

Graduation reaction

I do feel for Frank in Outlander Season 3, Episode 3, especially when it comes to the graduation moment. He clearly has the wrong time and he didn’t mean to embarass Claire in front of her colleagues. However, that’s not the way Claire sees it.

She decides to offer Frank a divorce. She won’t contest it and she promises not to take Bree away from Frank. It’s clear that she wants everyone to be happy, but that’s not possible with the situation.

Pride in Brianna

There are a lot of times that Claire seems cold toward Brianna. However, throughout this episode we see her pride. Just in the 1956 scene at breakfast, we see her praising Bree for her drawing.

The moment that stands out, though, is Bree’s graduation. She can’t help but beam with pride as Brianna accepts her high school diploma.

Admiting she’d never forget Jamie

Frank wants to move to England and take Bree with him. There’s no way Claire would allow that. No good mother would unless it really was what her daughter wanted. This isn’t the case here.

It brings up a conversation about Jamie. Would Claire have ever forgotten him if it wasn’t for Brianna? Not a chance!

Saying goodbye to Frank

We get an emotional goodbye at the end of Outlander Season 3, Episode 3. It’s an important scene to show why Claire still wears Frank’s wedding ring even today. She tells Frank’s body that she did love him, hoping that his spirit is still close enough to hear her.

There’s an important line that, for me, makes it clear why she keeps Frank’s ring. He was her first love. First loves don’t really go away. They can hurt for decades, especially when you’ve been with them all that time. Claire never stopped loving Frank, but it was never as strong as her love for Jamie.
