There’s no second season of The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance

It’s one and done for The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. Sadly, Netflix has decided not to continue the story.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance was a prequel to the Jim Henson movie The Dark Crystal. Outlander‘s Caitriona Balfe voiced one of the characters, making it a show for many of us to watch.

For some, the cancellation won’t be shocking news. The first season did drop on Aug. 30, 2019. That’s more than a year ago! Most Netflix shows have been “quietly canceled” if there’s no news after a couple of months.

However, it’s disappointing news. The series that involves all puppets was praised by both critics and audiences. It won an Emmy, and yet, it still wasn’t enough to give this show a second season.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance may be a COVID-19 casualty

Sadly, there have been a few shows renewed and then canceled shortly after without bringing those new seasons. Netflix reversed The Society‘s renewal and ABC recently reversed Stumptown‘s renewal. It’s all come due to COVID-19, which has made filming difficult for many productions.

This may be another of those casualties. However, What’s On Netflix also points out that the ratings were a “massive disappointment.” Not as many tuned in as hoped, especially for such a big-budget series. With the coronavirus causing problems for filming, it made more sense financially for Netflix to cancel the series.

The second season was planned, though. It was going to continue the story of the Gelflings attempting to defeat the Skesis. Considering we know where that particular story ends since the movie sees the Skesis in power, the second season was going to be the beginning of the end for the Gelflings.
