Foreshadowing within the Outlander chapter

Something this chapter certainly touches on is Brianna’s journey that’s still to come. She refuses to believe Claire’s story, and that’s completely understandable. For the last 20 years, Brianna has grown up believing Frank is her dad. He’s treated her and loved her like a daughter. There was never any reason for her to believe otherwise.

Now her whole life is turned upside down. At the age of 20, she’ll still be finding herself anyway. Now she has to figure out who her parents are, and what that means about her love for Frank. Can she get to know Jamie and still honor Frank’s memory? Can she love Frank as her father and open a place in her heart for Jamie?

It sets us up for some difficult chapters for her, but also a lot of growth.

Then there’s the foreshadowing of being unable to change things. Claire, once again, wants to try to prevent “history.” We know that Geillis goes back to the past. That’s happened, and time is pretty much a loop. Or at least, so it seems. Like Culloden, Claire is trying to stop something happening that has technically already happened—something that is destined to happen.

She’ll always refuse to believe that the past must happen the way it once did.

Adapting the Dragonfly in Amber chapter

And we come to the way this chapter was adapting. All the 1968 chapters had to be condensed into half an episode of Outlander Season 2. There was no way everything would be able to happen specifically as told in the book.

However, it still had to happen in some way. And so it did. Claire told Brianna and Roger the truth, and Brianna reacted as we saw her do in the chapter. She couldn’t stand that her mother was telling her Frank wasn’t her father.

The difference is the way Geillis Duncan comes into the story. Claire isn’t searching for Geillis in the show, but Brianna comes across her. It eventually leads to Claire trying to stop Geillis from going through the stones.

However, Claire does tell Roger where his family tree was wrong, connecting him to Geilllis and Dougal.
