Claire’s standout moments from Outlander Season 1, Episode 7

We make it to the wedding event of the century on Outlander Season 1, Episode 7. Claire had some excellent moments throughout, but which ones stand out?

This is a beautiful episode. While much of it is taken directly from the book, it does give us a look at Jamie’s steps before getting married. The book is focused only on Claire’s experiences in the lead-up to the wedding.

However, there are some substantial changes to make the show stand out, including not using the same church for both of Claire’s weddings. Here’s a look at my favorite Claire moments from Outlander Season 1, Episode 7.

Agreeing to elope

I really loved the flashback to Claire and Frank’s wedding. It was completely different to the book, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying it. It showed that Frank could be spontaneous, and it showed he knew what he wanted.

For Claire, it showed that she was in love. We got this woman who was willing to jump into marriage without a long engagement, giving us two marriages that were similar but completely different. Plus, it reminded me of why she wanted to get back to Frank. At this point, she still loved him the most.

Nervousness on her wedding night

Claire asked Jamie questions at awkward times. She wanted to get to know him more. She fiddled with things or just sat motionless with nerves. Despite being married once and having experience in the bed chamber, she was as nervous as a virgin.

I loved seeing this uncertainty around her. Up to this point, she’d kept so much bottled up. Her fear came through as fiestiness. Now, she was letting her guard down around Jamie.

Getting to know Jamie better

While she was nervous, she also spent the time getting to know her new husband better. She wanted to know about his family, his life, and even what he did in the lead-up to the wedding. What conditions did he have before getting married?

She’s not a selfish woman. She puts in the effort, even if the questions do sometimes come at awkward times. But at the same time, she’s developing feelings for him quickly.

Thanking Rupert

While there are a lot of small moments during the wedding and in the bedroom on Outlander Seaosn 1, Episode 7, there was one moment that really stood out that reminded me of a section in the book Dragonfly in Amber. She thanks Rupert for the ring, knowing that he was the one who paid for it.

In Dragonfly in Amber, she thanks a corporal for a tent, even though he claims it was his officer who suggested it. She knows better, and she’s warm to the people who genuinely try to help. In this episode, it was Rupert who went a little extra mile to make the day special for her, and she showed her appreciation for that.

The two rings

At the very end of the episode, Claire shook her dress out and her gold wedding band fell out. She’d put it there as she went into the chapel, possibly not wanting it to get in the way and not realizing that the other hand would be used.

She puts the ring on and then looks at them both. One gold and one iron. Two marriages, two different centuries, two experiences. Now she will have to choose.
