Jamie turned himself over to the Redcoats on Outlander Season 3, Episode 2
During Outlander Season 3, Episode 2, we got a look at how Jamie lived after Culloden. It’s time to look at his strongest moments from the episode.
This was a heartbreaking episode. Not only did we see Jamie in his grief despite six years passing since Culloden, but we also saw him realize that he needed to take steps to protect his family. They’d protected him for too long.
Here are my five favorite Jamie moments from Outlander Season 3, Episode 2.
Seeing Claire
We got a look at how Jamie was living. The Redcoats continuously hounded Lallybroch in search for Jamie Fraser, knowing that his family would look after him. It meant he needed to remain away from them all in a cave, only coming out when he knew it was safe to do so.
He came back with food for them now and again. However, the first look we get of this is when Jamie sees Claire tending to things outside instead of Jenny. He will never let Claire go from his heart.
Unwilling to speak
Jamie refuses to speak for the first part of the episode. He’s deep in grief, and he tries to hold himself at a distance from everyone. Whether that’s to protect them or to protect him isn’t clear, but it’s to protect someone.
He’s just a shell of a man, something that Sam Heughan portrays so brilliantly. It’s clear that Jamie is only part of himself without Claire around.
Not fighting the Redcoats
When Fergus is being chased by the Redcoats, Jamie just watches. There’s nothing he can do. It takes strength to do that rather than acting on instinct. As Jenny said, if he’d gone after the Redcoats, he, Fergus, and everyone at Lallybroch would be dead.
Instead, he goes after Fergus when he knows the coast is clear. He’ll do what he can to save Fergus once he can, showing he is still planning ahead even in his grief.

Keeping his promise
There’s a beautiful scene between Jamie and Fergus in Outlander Season 3, Episode 2. Fergus brings up the promises Jamie made when employing him in France. Of course, Jamie hasn’t forgotten those promises, and he will make sure Fergus is looked after for the rest of his life.
Jamie can’t do that himself, though. He needs Jenny to do it (and she’s not going to say no to Fergus), because he needs to do something else for the family.
Turning himself in
Ian is continuously arrested to find out where Jamie is. Jenny is always dealing with the Redcoats around. Now Fergus has lost a hand. There’s always a threat to Jamie’s family, and he can’t take it anymore.
Jamie finds a way to make sure his family is looked after and turn himself in at the same time. He convinces Jenny to call for the Redcoats and say that Jamie has been in touch. You know he doesn’t want to do it, but he feels like he has to.
