Outlander Book Club: Book 2, Chapter 43 breakdown
Claire and Dougal help a man die in Outlander Book 2, Chapter 43
We said goodbye to a dearly loved character in Outlander Book 2, Chapter 43. The MacKenzie men along with Claire and Jamie had no choice but to find sanctuary in a church, although it wouldn’t be the haven they hoped for.
This chapter gave us a look at how sometimes the Scots could be caught off guard. Jamie had to send Claire off to a church for sanctuary when the Battle of Falkirk started. However, the MacKenzie men would lead the British right to Claire and her horse.
It was a dark chapter, with Claire and Dougal together helping a man die. However, this didn’t happen in the show. Already losing Angus, the show decided to only injury Rupert and not kill him off. That may have been linked to Rupert being needed for a bigger goodbye in the Outlander Season 3 premiere.
While the chapter was used, there were some changes made to it in the show—and not just involving Rupert’s death. However, the main elements of the chapter were kept, which were important for the next part of the story. After all, it was all about linking back to one particular attack in Paris.
The chapter isn’t all that long, coming in at just short of 40 minutes. Be warned that there’s a slightly longer chapter coming up.
Let’s get into the breakdown of Dragonfly in Amber Chapter 43.
