Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

This is a chapter that has a little foreshadowing. When discussing Ian joining Jamie, Jenny shares how she had nursed Ian back to health after the loss of his leg in France. He was close to death and Ian’s mother wasn’t much help, so Jenny did it all.

This foreshadows everything she will do for Jamie. After Culloden, Jamie returns close to death. Only Jenny can help nurse him back to full health, especially since Claire has just disappeared.

I can’t quite remember how things work in the book version of the story. I do have a feeling that the mention of Claire having knowledge of the future does come into play during the book. It could be Prestonpans, knowing that it will be a Jacobite victory.

Adapting the Dragonfly in Amber chapter

This chapter isn’t used all that much in the TV series. We don’t see the big buildup because we quickly see Jamie and Claire on the road. They need to head to Jamie’s grandfather, Lord Lovat. The two leave Lallybroch alone. Even Fergus isn’t with them. However, people eventually join them in the fight.

There is a moment in Outlander Season 1 where we see Jamie take one of Jenny’s children from her to allow Jenny to get some rest. It’s the least he can do and we get to see him as a doting uncle. It made sense to add this where there was time instead of missing it out completely.
